Hardly in the stores, right at the top of the download charts: Sweatcoin is the app of the hour, which even leaves WhatsApp and Instagram behind. The idea: The fitness application pays users for outdoor exercise. You will learn today more about sweatcoin and how to get more sweatcoins.
Sweatcoin is available as a free download directly from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store . The app works with its own virtual currency, the so-called sweatcoins. Each step completed outdoors is converted into sweatcoins, which can then be redeemed on partner offers for products or activities. But how does it work?
Sweatcoin asks a lot of data
Before the app can be used at all, it will chat in the style of a chat, asking for various data and permissions required to participate. This is already quite sensitive data, for sure not everyone wants to grant the release – but then no sweatcoins can run.
Users must provide their name, e-mail address, phone number – and of course the sharing of location and fitness data. Sure: Without accelerometer and GPS the determination of a covered distance is not possible.
Anyone who uses apps like Sweatcoin , however, must also be aware that with such releases theoretically a motion profile can be generated. By the way: Even Google and Apple generate such profiles, unless this is disabled.
For Sweatcoin to work, the app must be running in the background, so do not quit manually. The developers emphasize that the battery consumption is low.
How does Sweatcoin measure the steps?
Sweatcoin has its own algorithm, which currently counts about 65 percent of all user steps. This percentage is to be increased in perspective, currently it is intended to prevent fraud attempts.
And important: The app measures only data that are generated outdoor – so users will not get around leaving their own four walls. Incidentally, this is the purpose of Sweatcoin as well. For 1000 steps outdoors you get in the standard version 0.95 sweatcoins. At some point in the future, however, movements should also be measured indoor.
What can you buy for sweatcoins?
If you’re hoping to shop quickly, you have to be patient: an iPhone 8, for example, is currently available for 20,000 sweatcoins. For this you have to be on the road for a few days …
However, there are also significantly cheaper rewards such as a Paypal credit, online yoga courses or discounts on fashion brands. Especially conscious savers can donate their virtual coins also for the good purpose with partner organizations of the offerer.
One point, however, hampers the accumulation of a Sweatcoin fortune: in the free version, users can spend a maximum of five “sweat coins” per day. You can do more – but only if you invest up to 30 sweatcoins in currently three different upgrade subscriptions or invite friends and get 5 sweatcoins for each successful registration.
In addition, you can earn something by looking at advertising.
Current Sweatcoin subscription models:
- “Mover”: Standard use, free, up to 5 sweatcoins / day possible
- “Shaker”: costs 4.75 sweatcoins per month, up to 10 sweatcoins per day possible
- “Quaker”: costs 20 Sweatcoins per month, up to 15 Sweatcoins per day possible

How to get more sweatcoins
A similar concept as Sweatcoin pursued some time ago the App Runister (” This app pays you for running “). In our test, everything worked fine, but failed the provider when it came to the end of the payout: More than 100 euros have never been paid, the provider stopped the offer sang- and soundless.
Sweatcoin seems to be better positioned right from the start. The app by London-based startup Sweatco has raised more than $ 1.6 million in capital in a first round of financing, according to the New York Times, and is currently available in 16 countries. Much more important, however, is the awareness – and the application seems to work: with futurezone more than five million installations, a large population is at least once interested in the idea. Whether in the end actually all the running shoes lace up and stick to it, will show.
We will test the app and report on our experience with Sweatcoin . Among other things, the offer will be used safely at the marathon.
